December 17, 2012 A Message from the President: St. John's and the BIG EAST
		Dear Members of the St. John's Community: As you may have heard, St. John's University and the other six, non-football institutions within the BIG EAST voted unanimously on Saturday to exit the conference as it is currently constituted. St. John's and its fellow institutions will now pursue a foundation of basketball-focused schools, based on the rich tradition upon which the BIG EAST was originally established.

December 14, 2012 Robert A. Mangione, Ed.D., R.Ph., Named Provost of St. John's University
		St. John’s University President, Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M. announced that the University’s Board of Trustees has elected Robert A. Mangione, Ed.D., R.Ph., as Provost, effective immediately. Dr. Mangione has been serving as Interim Provost since August.

		Towering above the Great Lawn on the Queens, NY, campus, the St. John’s University Christmas Tree was lit up on December 6 as students, faculty and staff gathered for the culmination of the University’s annual Winter Carnival — a week-long celebration of the holiday season.

December 04, 2012 Speech-Language Professor Takes Home Highest Professional Award
		Donna Geffner, Ph.D., Professor and Program Director in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, has earned many accolades during her 42-year teaching career. The most recent of these was the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Honors of the Association Award, presented to her on November 16 at ASHA’s annual convention in Atlanta, GA.

Born and raised in Brazil, he earned his B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and M.S. in Sciences Applied to Pediatrics at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo.

		Theresa Maylone, Dean of University Libraries, was raised in a suburb of Chicago, IL. She came to St. John's University in 1999 as the Libraries' Coordinator of Planning, Budgeting and Development. Maylone also served as Executive Director of Libraries, University Librarian and Interim Dean before her appointment as Dean in 2011.

		When Hurricane Sandy hit the mid-Atlantic coast on Monday, October 29, it flooded communities, toppled trees and wrecked power lines throughout the New York metropolitan area.

		A proud member of a family steeped in military tradition, Andrew Lyons '82SVC, '97G originally came to St. John's University because of its acclaimed Army ROTC program. "I had always wanted to join the United States Army, but my father — who went in as an enlisted man — encouraged me to get my degree and go in as an officer." Now a Lieutenant Colonel, Lyons has spent 28 years in the army — 12 on active duty and 16 in the reserves.

September 11, 2012 Message from the President: St. John's University Mourns the Passing of Leon DaSilva '99HON
		St. John’s celebrates the life and mourns the passing of Leon DaSilva, ‘99HON, a longtime friend and generous benefactor of our University, who passed away on September 9 at the age of 90. DaSilva Academic Center on the Staten Island campus and both DaSilva Field and DaSilva Residence Hall on the Queens campus inextricably link the DaSilva name to St. John’s.

September 5, 2012 Meet the Dean: Michael Simons — Informal Conversations with the Deans of St. John's University
		Michael A. Simons, J.D., Dean of St. John’s School of Law and John V. Brennan Professor of Law and Ethics, joined St. John’s in 1998. Like his father before him ( Andrew J. Simons ’65L, Vice Dean Emeritus), Dean Simons came to the University after a distinguished career as a practicing attorney. He has been a federal prosecutor, a criminal defense lawyer and the staff attorney for The Washington Post. He was appointed Dean in 2009.

September 4, 2012 St. John's Welcomes Faculty Class of 2012
		Meet St. John's Faculty Class of 2012. The University welcomed 44 scholar-teachers — the largest entering "class" in years — at its annual Faculty Convocation on August 28. They join a community of professionals who are widely known for their commitment to outstanding teaching. This year, in fact, five St. John's faculty were featured in The Princeton Review's "The Best 300 Professors."

August 30, 2012 A Sea of Red and White Welcomes Class of 2016 at New Student Convocation
		In a festive welcome to their first semester at St. John's University, nearly 1,900 members of this year’s freshman class filled Carnesecca Arena at the Queens, NY, campus for the annual New Student Convocation on Tuesday, August 28.

August 27, 2012 Move-in 2012 Builds Sense of Community for New and Returning Students
		With help and high spirits from family, friends and campus volunteers, about 3,700 new and returning students moved into St. John’s University’s residence halls on August 23 – 26. At each of St. John’s three, residential New York City campuses — in Queens, on Staten Island and in Manhattan — the fall Move-In Days marked the unofficial start of the 2012-13 academic year.

		Kathleen Vouté MacDonald, Ed.D, M.B.A., has served as Dean of the College of Professional Studies (CPS) since 1994. She had worn many professional hats before coming to St. John's, and these experiences, she believes, prepared her to take the helm of CPS — known for preparing students for many of today's leading careers while providing them with a solid liberal arts education.

		Joining a roster that includes some of the world's leading authors, scientists and intellectuals, Laura J. Snyder, Ph.D., Professor of Philosophy at St. John’s University, was a featured speaker at the celebrated TEDGlobal conference, held this year in Edinburgh.

June 18, 2012 Meet the Dean: Victoria Shoaf – Informal Conversations with the Deans of St. John's University
		Victoria Shoaf, CPA, Ph.D., Dean of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business (TCB), was born and raised in California. After joining TCB as a member of the faculty in 1997, she went on to serve as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Chair of TCB’s Department of Accounting and Taxation. Dr. Shoaf became Dean in 2011, after serving as interim Dean during the 2010-2011 academic year.

		The New York City Council honored St. John’s University’s Mock Trial Team on June 14 with a proclamation recognizing the team’s 20th anniversary and its continuing success in preparing students for “distinguished legal careers and public service.”

		John Franco, a four-time MLB All-Star who once said he truly became a pitcher at St. John’s University, was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame at Citi Field in Queens, NY, on Sunday, June 3.

May 30, 2012 St. John's Takes Big East Crown
		After securing an automatic bid by winning a conference-record seventh BIG EAST Championship crown, St. John's (37-21), which is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season, was selected as a No. 3 seed and is headed to the Chapel Hill Regional. Hosted by the No. 6 national seed North Carolina Tar Heels, the four-team regional also includes No. 2 seed East Carolina and No. 4 seed Cornell.
