Taffner Field House Construction

St. John's announces the construction of the Taffner Field House and renovations of Carnesecca Arena and the University Center. These projects reflect St. John's dedication to its athletic programs and the healthy lifestyles and fitness of our students.

Named for the family of trustee Eleanor Taffner and her husband, Donald, a St. John's alumnus, the field house is slated for completion in September 2005. The Taffner Field House is part of a $23 million athletic and student recreation enhancement project including the Belson Stadium building, the new student Fitness Center and various enhancements to Carnesecca Arena.

Project Highlights
The Taffner Field House, a two-story, 38,000 square foot structure, will include:

  • Four full size basketball courts - two for Student Life, two for Varsity Basketball
  • Academic support classrooms and study space for student-athletes
  • Office and meeting space for recreation and intramural activities
  • Audio/visual rooms for all varsity athletic teams
  • Dedicated locker rooms for both student recreation and men's and women's basketball
  • New offices and meeting rooms for men's and women's basketball
  • Exclusive Sports Medicine and weight training facilities

Carnesecca Arena and University Center renovations include:

  • A 6,400 square foot Health Center in Carnesecca Arena for use by Student Life and Athletics, including weight training equipment, aerobics and dance studios and a student lounge
  • Reconfigured office and meeting space for Student Life and Academic Clubs
  • Additional audio/visual rooms for all varsity athletic teams
