Dr. André McKenzie serves as Vice President for
Academic Support Services. He began working at the University in
1986 and is currently responsible for the Division of Academic
Support Services and the Division of Special and Opportunity
Programs. These programs include: Transfer Student Services, the
University Honors Program, Academic Support and Leadership for
Student Athletes, the Graduate Admission Assistance Program,
Testing Services, Student Support Services, the Ronald E. McNair
Scholars Program, the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry
Program, College Advantage, the Gaining Early Awareness and
Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), the Science and
Technology Entry Program, and the College Bound: Liberty
Partnerships Program.
In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. McKenzie has
taught both undergraduate and graduate students as an Adjunct
Assistant Professor. He currently teaches the Discover New York
course through the University’s Institute for Core
Studies.
Dr. McKenzie received B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from
Illinois State University and MS.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees from
Teachers College, Columbia University. He received a Certificate in
Management Development from Cornell University’s School of
Industrial and Labor Relations.
Dr. McKenzie is a contributing author to African American
Fraternities and Sororities: The Legacy and the Vision (2005),
Student Freedom Revisited: New Issues and Perspectives
(2005), and Alpha Phi Alpha: A Legacy of Greatness,
The Demands of Transcendence (2012). He has also
contributed articles to the NASPA (National Association of
Student Personnel Administrators) Journal. His doctoral
dissertation, Fraters: Black Greek-Letter Fraternities at Four
Historically Black Colleges, 1920-1960, examined the origins
and evolution of Black-Greek Letter fraternities at four HBCUs over
a forty-year period.
Dr. McKenzie is Past-President of the Teachers College (TC),
Columbia University Alumni Council and participates in TC’s Alumni
Mentoring Program. He is the recipient of St. John’s Vincentian
Mission Award, and The Spirit of St. John’s Award. His professional
affiliations include the American Counseling Association, the
American College Personnel Association, the National Academic
Advising Association and the National Association of Student
Personnel Administrators.
