Screening of a new documentary entitled "The Land Beneath Our Feet"
The History Department and Africana Studies will be screening a new documentary entitled The Land Beneath Our Feet. The film features lost footage from the 1920s that depicts a corporate land grab in Liberia in the early days of globalization. The footage sparks an inquiry into how Liberians lost sovereignty over the very land that sustains them.
Following the film we will host a discussion with Gregg Mitman, Vilas Research and William Coleman Professor of History of Science, Medical History, and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin, who will spend the day on our campus.
The film’s website, which features a trailer, can be found here: http://thelandbeneathourfeet.com/
