Dr. Malcolm Compitello
Head of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese
University of Arizona

Dr. Malcolm Alan Compitello is a distinguished alumnus of St. John’s University, where he earned both his B.A. and M.A. in Spanish. He then went on to Indiana University for his Ph.D in Hispanic Literature with a minor in Comparative Literature. In 1995, Professor Compitello moved to the University of Arizona, where he became Professor and Head of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, where he remains, as both, today. In addition to being the author of numerous books and countless academic articles, Dr. Compitello is the founder and executive editor of the Arizona Journal of Hispanic Cultural Studies, which continues to promote literary and cultural criticism. Dr. Compitello was named the 2016 recipient of the Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession from the Association of the Departments of Foreign Languages.
