Add a little spice to a summer night. Come to “Latin Fire,” St. John’s University’s 16th Annual Great Lawn Summer Concert.

The concert takes place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30. Under the direction of Maestro Constantine Kitsopoulos, the Queens Symphony Orchestra will perform with La Familia Sextet. Whether you’re ready to salsa or you just want to sit back and watch, you’ll enjoy the combination of rich orchestral arrangements and Latin rhythms.

Willie Martinez, the Sextet’s drummer, has been part of the New York music scene for more than a quarter century. A gifted composer, arranger, and vocalist, Martinez has been featured with a wide range of bands—from Gothic funk at CBGBs to Afro-Cuban jazz at Carnegie Hall. He has performed and/or recorded noted artists such as Chico O’Farrill, George Cables, Jewel, Faith Hill, and Brandy.

Alumns of St. John's can attend the Alumni Barbeque, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Little Theater. For more information, please contact the Office of Community Relations at 718-990-1941.
