Crowd of Close to 1,500 Attend Event on
Great Lawn at Queens Campus
St. John’s University’s Office of Community Relations recently
presented its Ninth Annual Summer Concert featuring the Queens
Symphony Orchestra on the Great Lawn of the Queens campus on August
2.
Under the direction of Maestro Constantine Kitsopoulos, the
Queens Symphony Orchestra performed eloquently as a crowd of close
to 1,500 was captivated by a wonderful evening titled, "Remembering
Music and Song from Great Movies." Highlights featured songs from
the hit movies: “2001 A Space Odyssey; Bridge on the River Kwai;
Star Wars; Harry Potter; The King and I; and Carousel.”

The event was sponsored by ConEd, Coca Cola, Jamaica Chamber of
Commerce, Assemblyman Rory Lancman and Skyline Commons.
“We were blessed to have a
beautiful night of weather and a record turnout from the community
to enjoy a spectacular concert given by the Queens Symphony
Orchestra,” said Joseph Sciame, St. John’s University’s Vice
President for Community Relations. “St. John’s is grateful to so
many community members for making this night such a huge
success.”
The annual festivities are supported by City Council members:
David Weprin, James Gennaro, Tony Avella and Melinda Katz as well
as numerous students and Queens Symphony Orchestra volunteers, the
St. John’s University Offices of Facilities, Special Events and
Public Safety and the New York City Parks Department.
