Policy 107 - Pre-employment Background Checks

Scope

Full-time and adjunct faculty, full-time and part-time administrators and staff and other individuals as may be required by the University, as well as any employee, student worker, graduate assistant, volunteer, vendor or contractor working with minors on campus as defined under policy #711.

Policy

Reference checks should be conducted on each final candidate for employment. All offers of employment are contingent on satisfactory background checks. A contracted service provider will conduct the reference checks on behalf of the University. Inquiries for information will relate to verification of employment, education, criminal conviction, and a social security number verification.

Falsification of information or misrepresentation or omission of facts by an employee is cause for not hiring, or for termination of employment. Hiring managers should contact the Recruitment Office at extension 2445 or 2423 to initiate reference checks.
